Stevens, Barbara Leigh
Biography
Barbara Stevens lives with her family on Hamilton ‘Mountain’. She went to school in Hamilton, earning her Bachelor degree at McMaster University and then graduated from Hamilton Teachers’ College in its final year of operation. She taught in the Halton elementary school system and then began teaching English as a second language to adult students. Her latest two books, Mirage and Reprisal are set in the Hamilton area. In 2007 she obtained a Masters of Education degree in Adult English as a Second Language. She wrote free-lance articles for the Hamilton Spectator and later volunteered writing articles as a member of the Community Editorial Board.
Barbara’s years of teaching children and adults newly arrived to Canada have provided her with insight into the struggles of many members of our multicultural community. Her books often contain elements of these plights. She does not, however, attribute her quirky love of plotting murder mysteries to her teaching experiences.
