Where Am I?...

Sleightholm, Stacey

Sleightholm, Stacey
Hamilton-area author Stacey Sleightholm

Biography

In October of 2005, just three years out of high school, Stacey released her first published book. Titled Celebrating a New Hamilton, the book is an in-depth profile of the post-amalgamated city of Hamilton in the new millennium. Doing things out of the traditional order, Stacey then went on to attend college-graduating from Sheridan College's print journalism program in 2007. An avid music fan, Stacey next became part of the in-house writing staff at Canada's largest national music magazine, Exclaim!-writing reviews and news on some of the world's best (and sometimes worst) up-and-coming indie rock artists. In joining the team at Free The Children, Stacey hopes to ply her varied journalistic experience into an instrument toward social justice. She believes strongly in the importance of equality, education, human rights and youth empowerment as universal standards, and is eager to communicate those tenets through her work at Free The Children. The daughter of two journalists (mother, Sherry, was a long-time columnist for the Hamilton Spectator and the author of several books, and father, Brent, has been the voice of Hamilton's radio news for more than 30 years), Stacey is delighted to be navigating her own path in the family trade. In her free time Stacey loves to draw and paint, and is slowly building a thick portfolio of her art which, however disheveled, has grown to become her most valued possession.
