Richardson, Yvonne Birks
Biography
Yvonne Birks Richardson is the mother of five and the grandmother of five. Interested in writing from her youth, she served in the C.W.A.C. and met and married her soldier lover. During her long hiatus as a frustrated writer while raising her children, she used her talent in many volunteer capacities including tutoring handicapped youngsters, running a Listening Center at her local school, writing a series of articles for the local newspaper and mastermining a booklet on Child Abuse. After her children had grown up, she attended Niagara College and finally began to pursue her dreams and seriously started writng when she acquired her Himalayan Cat, Karma in 1986. She wrote her first poem in 1987, and published her first book of poetry, I Heard God Call My Name in 1990, A Literary Cat in 1993, and Remembrance in 1996, which was dedicated to the memory of her husband. She has been a member of the Canadian Authors Association, Hamilton Branch, serving as treasurer and editor of their newsletter, Inklings, and has also been president of the Tower Poetry Society.
