Orovan-Johnston, Sharron
Biography
Sharron Orovan-Johnston is a Registered Nurse with over 30 years of psychiatric experience, which is not bad for someone who claims to be 39! Her hobbies include golf (she actually got a hole in one!) magic, gardening, and travel. She recently married David and enjoys family life including her three sons and David’s two daughters.
Sharron specializes in anxiety disorders and uses humour as a coping tool. She has presented on this topic at workshops in Canada, US, England, Norway, Japan, and Italy. Sharron, along with nurse Adrienne Sloan, took their appreciation of humour to the community of Hamilton and persuaded the mayor to declare a Lighten Up Hamilton week the first week each February. This week is about positively connecting with others and using humour. Included in this week is the Red Nose day where everyone is encouraged to gather a group and wear red noses. In 1994, they co-founded the successful annual Canadian Humour Conference, a day dedicated to laughter and brushing up on humour skills.
