Konkel, K. G. E.
Biography
K.G.E. “Chuck” Konkel was born in Rotterdam, grew up in Hamilton, and worked at Stelco when he was a student. He has a Master’s Degree in International relations, speaks several languages and has had a varied career in police work, for which he was won a number of local and international awards.
Mr. Konkel is an acknowledged international expert in Asian and Eastern European Organized Crime. He developed internal policing standards for Toronto Police that form the basis for policing standards for all forces in Ontario. He put in place the program for police personnel and victims of hate crime in Ontario that has been adopted by the Government of Canada. He was instrumental in creating Canada’s Hate Crime Laws. He has lectured in England, the FBI Academy Quantico, the Polish National Police Academy, and several Canadian universities, and has been an instructor at Seneca College for more than a decade. He has appeared on Larry King Live, the CBC's Front Page Challenge, CTV's Lifetime and many other national and international television programs. He is also regular book reviewer for the Globe & Mail.
He has been married for 30 years and has one daughter and a west highland terrier which is part of the family. He counts among his friends a coterie of writers and spies world wide. He is currently at work on a third novel.
