Henley, Brian
Biography
Brian Henley was still in high school when he first had his history articles published in the Port Hope Evening Guide. As a student at Trent University, he had some of his poems published in the campus literary magazine.
Brian joined the staff of the Hamilton Public Library in May, 1973 and began working full-time with Hamilton local history materials upon creation of the Special Collections (now called Local History and Archives) department in 1974.
Beginning in March, 1976, Brian wrote history articles for the local weeklies Hamilton Mountain News and the Kirkendell Review, and in 1980 wrote a monthly column for the fledgling Hamilton Magazine. His work has also appeared in the Toronto Sun, and for almost 15 years he wrote a weekly local history column in the Hamilton Spectator, for which he has also written numerous feature articles. His first book, Hamilton 1889-1890: From the Light-Lit Bay to the Lordly Hill, was written in connection with celebrations for the Hamilton Public Library’s 100th anniversary.
Since his retirement from the Hamilton Public Library, Brian wrote and delivered a weekly television segment, You Asked, for CH News, as well as occasional freelance writing contracts. He is currently working on several projects in connection with Hamilton history, including a nearly completed work on the Hamilton Harbour and Cootes Paradise.
