Emery, Joanna
Biography
Well, I’m a mother, writer and more…
I was born in London, England – the middle of three girls. My father was a doctor and my mother had trained to be a nurse. At one point, I thought about going into the medical field, but decided instead to study what I really enjoyed – history! But let’s backtrack for a minute. When I was a baby, my family immigrated to Canada – Ottawa, Ontario to be exact – and that’s where I grew up. I have also lived in London, England and Calgary, Alberta. Fast forward a few years to 1989 when I graduated with a B.A. in Humanities, History Major. Hooray!
...Mimi, my youngest, does a twirl at Sauble Beach...
I’ve always been a writer. As a girl I’d keep a journal, as a student I’d try and pen my best essay. I believe that anyone who writes IS a writer (even if you’ve never been published!). My writing took off after I took a continuing education course from McMaster University called “Writing For Fun and Profit’. The ‘fun’ is easy. The ‘profit’ is pretty hard to obtain. But I persevere….
And now? Now I write and live in rural Ontario near the town of Lynden (part of Hamilton-Wentworth), with my wonderful husband, Greg, our three children – Veronica, Monty and Mimi – and our assortment of cats!
