Bishop Joseph Francis Ryan has served the Roman Catholic Church for 64 years, thirty-six of them as Bishop of Hamilton. Pope John XXIII, in 1962, appointed him Assistant to the Pontifical Throne. During his tenure, he was probably involved in more widespread developments within the Hamilton Area than any other man in this century. His steadfast fight for the best possible education of Catholic students has produced results. In retirement, he is still active at St. Mary's Church.
