Where Am I?...

Andrus, David

Andrus, David
Hamilton-area author David Andrus

Biography

David Andrus has lived in Hamilton all his life. "I was born fast, according to my mother, but I've been slow at everything ever since,' he says. 'I didn't walk until 16 months, I didn't finish university until I was 36, and I didn't earn my MA until I was 55. I'm taking a lifetime to do everything – which of course is the way it should be.” ( "Pursuing a life long love of writing " by John Levesque, Hamilton Spectator, May 10, 1997). His job as a typesetter is beautifully described in his book, In the Beginning was the Word, and he has also worked as a communication officer for Canada Post in the 1980's and as a high school English teacher for the Hamilton Board of Education. He is now retired. He lives in Hamilton with his wife and they have a grown daughter and a granddaughter. He continues to work on novels, though he says “poetry will always be part of my life.”
