Socially Engaged Culture
You’ve heard it on campus and off. You’ve heard it in the café and at the theatre. You’ve heard it in the grocery store and at the game. What does it mean?
Being Socially Engaged means knowing what’s going on in your backyard, in your fridge, and in your closet. Were those sneakers made using child labour? Does your cup of coffee give the grower a fair wage? Do you need a lawn, or would native plants be healthier for the environment? Being Socially Engaged means looking at the world compassionately, but also actively. And as you seek out opportunities to contribute to a better world, you’ll also have the chance to read or hear a great poem, see or make a great work of art, sing or listen to a great song. Maybe you will run into Margaret Atwood or Bono. Well, you might.
