Reading and Homework Club Tutors

If you have strong academic skills and enjoy working with kids, consider volunteering at one of our twelve Reading and Homework Club programs. Kids gain confidence and improve their study skills and volunteers enjoy the satisfaction of helping kids learn.

 

What does a Reading and Homework Club volunteer do?

  • Meet at the library at a set time each week.
  • Help young people understand their homework assignments.
  • Help young people organize their homework so that they have an easier time doing their homework themselves.
  • Provide positive feedback.
  • Make notes about what you work on after each week's homework session.
  • Work with other volunteers and library staff.

 

What qualifications do I need to be a Reading and Homework Club volunteer?

  • Enjoy work with children
  • Speak and write English fluently
  • Understand basic math concepts
  • Communicate well with others
  • Be a good role model
  • Work well in a group environment
  • Patient
  • Reliable 
  • Reading and Homework Club volunteers need to supply two letters of reference.

 

Will I be trained a Reading and Homework Club volunteer?

  • A basic orientation is provided by the library before you start the program.
