Library Technicians
A Library Technician (LT) is a graduate of a two-year Library and Information Technician Diploma program recognized by the Canadian Library Association. Library Technicians have acquired a specialized knowledge of library information systems and methods in developing, organizing and maintaining a collection of material.
Library Technicians are able to work with minimum supervision and may be expected to supervise other staff (i.e. pages and students), plan and implement library programs, maintain basic bookkeeping / timekeeping records and order supplies. Library Technicians may also work in specialized departments such as Local History and Archives, the Virtual Library Branch and Technical Services.
Requirements
Some of the requirements to be a Library Technician are:
- Library Techniques Diploma from an accredited college.
- Good working knowledge and experience with computer applications including Microsoft Office applications, online databases, Internet browsers and search engines.
- Knowledge of current literature and reading trends.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
