Cleaners/Custodians

Cleaning and custodial positions are located at a variety of library branch locations.


Cleaners are responsible for garbage removal, cleaning and disinfecting library facilities and public areas, clearing snow from entrances and walkways during the winter months and other duties associated with the major responsibilities of the job.


Custodians are responsible for performing cleaning duties and preventative maintenance of library facilities, grounds and equipment; as well as completing snow removal during the winter months and other duties associated with the major responsibilities of the job


Requirements


Some of the requirements to be a Cleaner or Custodian are:

 

  • Cleaning experience in a workplace environment.
  • Knowledge in building maintenance and skilled trades.
  • Self-directed with the ability to work independently.
  • Trained in WHMIS with the knowledge and ability to work with chemicals used for cleaning and maintenance preferred.
  • Physical stamina required to perform tasks involving the lifting and movement of heavy furniture, equipment and other library materials.
