The City of Hamilton Arts Awards are awarded annually to practicing artists in the Hamilton area to recognize their significant contributions in their chosen discipline.

The Arts Awards are a joint project between the City of Hamilton and the Arts Advisory Commission (AAC). A panel of professional artists, community representatives and a member of the Arts Advisory Commission jury the awards.

The Arts Awards are comprised of five awards, one representing each of the following disciplines: literature, visual art, theatre, dance and music. All disciplines may not be recognized on an annual basis because of the number of submissions or the criteria for eligibility.

Nominees can be nominated in only ONE of the five categories. All nominees’ applications will be considered for three consecutive years. After three years, a nominee may be re-nominated. An award recipient may not be re-nominated in the same category for which they have previously won an award.

The Lifetime Achievement Award is based on activity over an entire career, including volunteer work and commitment to public awareness of the arts in the City of Hamilton. Individuals with an extensive history of artistic activity and dedication to the Hamilton arts community through volunteerism and/or advocacy and/or teaching, will be considered. Recommendations for Lifetime Achievement can be submitted directly to the Arts Advisory Commission.

Each winner will receive a prize of $1,000 and a commemorative medal designed by artist Dora de Pedery Hunt.
