Local History:
City Directories
Within most directories is a listing of street addresses (alphabetically by name of street) as well as a listing alphabetically by surname. The occupant can be determined by the address listing and cross-checked with the surname listing. Quite often information such as a spouse’s name or a tenant’s occupation can be found in the surname listing. Owners are not listed in the directories, only householders.
