There are various sources that can be used to document the history of a building. With the exception of some well-known houses most do not have a ready-made history. Therefore, the sources available must be researched and this can take time.

This section outlines the various types of records that can be used to trace the history of your house and where these records are located.

Assessment Records

The tax assessment records can help in accurate dating of the construction of the building as well as disclosing the original owner and a list of occupants.

Land Registry Records

City Directories

Within most directories is a listing of street addresses (alphabetically by name of street) as well as a listing alphabetically by surname.
